Three Stunning Rolex Dials That I Forgot Existed
A few weeks ago, I visited my local Rolex AD and had a lovely experience. I was given carte blanche to try on whatever I’d like and the representative candidly answered all my questions, even those related to production and availability. Upon leaving, I was given the latest issue of Rolex Magazine as well as the hardcover 2023-2024 catalog. With this catalog, I made it a goal to find references that I didn’t know or simply forgot existed. Spoiler alert: I found a lot. Here are three genuinely interesting Rolex dials, currently in production, that I completely forgot about.
Rolex Yacht-Master 42mm Falcon’s Eye Dial

Released in 2022, the Rolex Yacht-Master 42mm “Falcon’s Eye” features a mesmerizing stone dial. The blue metamorphic rock – Falcon’s Eye, sometimes referred to as “blue Tiger’s Eye” – has a fibrous quality and can appear black, light blue, and all shades in between, depending on lighting. Offered in white gold on a rubber Oysterflex bracelet, this is one of the most unique Yacht-Master configurations out there. I remember seeing this watch in the display case at Watches and Wonders, but haven’t seen or thought about it much since. Upon Googling the watch and seeing pictures under different lighting conditions, I gained a whole new appreciation for the dial.
Rolex Datejust 31mm Floral Dials

Another 2022 release – this trio of Datejusts with floral dial motifs – completely slipped my mind. Yet again, I remember seeing these at Watches and Wonders but haven’t seen or thought about them since. This dial motif is available in green (YG, diamond bezel), blue (WG/Steel, fluted bezel), and silver (RG/Steel, diamond bezel). Each dial has 24 flowers: 8 feature a sunray finish, 8 matte, and 8 grained. At the center of each flower is a small diamond set in what I’m assuming is white gold. Compared to other gem-set Rolex dials, I think this is one of the most subtle, artful, and elegant. Selfishly, I’d love to see this dial come in a larger case size. The blue dial, steel and white gold Rolesor, and fluted bezel make for my favorite configuration.

Rolex Day-Date 36mm and 41mm Eisenkiesel Dial

Moving back one year, we have Rolex’s Eisenkiesel-dial Day-Dates from 2021. Eisenkiesel is yet another stone that Rolex uses for its dials: a dark-brown quartz crystal fragmented by reddish-brown veins. Available only in Everose (rose gold), this watch can be had in 36mm with diamond-set Roman numeral indices or in 41mm with baguette-cut diamond indices. Both have the option of a diamond-set bezel. Although I’m not the biggest fan of Everose gold, the Eisenkiesel dial is a perfect complement to this darker, redder precious metal. These tones of dark brown and red really harken back to the 1970s when wood and stone Rolex Day-Dates were produced.
