Following just 24 hours after SIHH was canceled, the watch world was not too shocked by the news Baselworld was also postponed. A statement has been released by Baselworld:

“For health safety reason and in accordance with the precautionary principle following the bans issued today by the federal and cantonal authorities, Baselworld announces that it has taken the decision to postpone the show to Thursday 28th January 2021 to Tuesday 2nd February 2021 (Press Day on Wednesday 27th January) due to concerns related to Covid-19."

There has yet been any push back from the watch community as if this was expected. And, in a way, it was. The Swiss government has banned large scale events - which would include Baselworld of course.

After recent developments including Watches and Wonders and SiHH being canceled. Swatch Group canceled their big dealer event, and brands started to pull out of Baselworld - including Citizen and Seiko.

What does this mean for the watch world? We will be anxious to see how the watch community announces new releases.
