Celebrity Watch Spot: YouTuber Casey Neistat’s Epic Everest Band Story
From wake boarding in Amsterdam while wearing a tuxedo, to snowboarding in Times Square with the NYPD chasing behind, Casey Neistat has done just about everything under the sun, and lucky for us, he films it all.
His YouTube channel boasts over 12 million subscribers and since he started vlogging in 2010, his channel has had nearly 3 BILLION views (2,824,998,042 to be exact). Casey’s life story is truly inspirational as he had a very rough start, but now has an HBO show, a lovely family, and multi-million dollar deals with Nike, Google, Samsung and more.
(image source)In addition to being a legendary success story, a robust world traveler, and phenomenal extreme sports athlete, he also happens to be the proud owner of a few Everest Bands.
Let’s take a look at how this epic picture of Casey Neistat and Michael DiMartini (Everest Horology CEO) came to be.
After receiving his first nice watch, a Rolex Datejust as a wedding gift from his in-laws, Casey knew instantly that he would absolutely destroy anything nice. Not wanting to disappoint her parents, his wife Candice looked online and found the perfect solution for Casey’s extreme lifestyle--a black curved-end rubber strap for his Rolex from Everest. This particular strap is the “deployant” version, which incorporates your own Rolex clasp into the watch band for a super custom look. In his vlog that has over 4 million views, Casey said that because of his rubber Everest band, “Something that was once way too precious for me becomes a fairly practical wrist watch.” We couldn’t agree more!
Casey instantly fell in love with the product, shared his love on the vlog, and wore it everywhere. One day as he was filming a video, his watch strap detached on camera! Little did he know, the jeweler that installed his first rubber Everest band used the wrong spring bar. Due to the faulty spring bar, the band was not as secure to the watch as it should have been. Shortly after his video blog posted, some friends of Michael DiMartini who were avid Casey Neistat fans saw what happened, and quickly shared the vlog with him.

CEO of Everest, Michael DiMartini was already scheduled to go to NYC for a Redbar Crew event and knew exactly what he needed to do. As a person who 110% stands behind his work and his passions, Michael reached out to Casey personally and got in touch with his people. Casey then invited Michael to come to his iconic studio in New York City to allow Michael to help remedy the problem. Michael and Casey saw the incorrect spring bar right away and Michael fixed the strap for Casey on the spot!

During this epic interaction, Casey mentioned to Michael that he loved the black but what he really wanted was a white rubber strap, which at the time, Everest did not yet offer. A few months later, Everest released a new version of the rubber watch straps, and it came in white. Michael did not hesitate to send a white strap to Casey right away. Casey loved it so much that he installed the strap on his vlog where over 4 million viewers tuned in. His exact quote was, “Mike, This. Is. Awesome!”

Using the spring bar tool and Rolex-style spring bars (also available on Everest’s website), Casey easily installed the new white rubber strap himself! This strap differs from his black rubber strap because this one has a tang buckle instead of the deployant buckle option. Both options are currently available at Everest, in even more colors and styles now.
Although Casey doubted his abilities to install the strap without destroying the watch, he was able to install it pretty easily and quickly. Perhaps he watched Everest’s watch strap installation video first.
Installing the white rubber strap gave Casey Neistat’s Rolex Datejust a whole new life and purpose. Plus it looks absolutely, positively badass. Just when you thought Casey Neistat couldn’t get any cooler, he does. A blog called Keep the Time also wrote more about Casey and his Everest band here.
Since this time, Casey Neistat has only gotten more successful and more inspirational. With over 12 million subscribers on YouTube and countless fans, he continues to inspire and entertain his viewers with his stunts, insane travels, and heartfelt stories. It’s worth mentioning that in addition to being an absolute legend, Casey is also a hell of a nice guy. After moving from New York City to Los Angeles California this year, he still rocks a Rolex, but now has upgraded to what looks to be an 18K gold Rolex Submariner.
It’s hard to tell if the dial is black or blue, but it appears to be black, with the bezel being black as well. If we had to guess, we think it is the ref. 16618 but there is some speculation. Another blog, Keep The Time, analyzed his new Rolex watch more here and shared the differing thoughts on what it might be. Although we don’t think it’s the case this time, we can never rule out the idea that Casey actually bought a stainless steel version of the watch and spray painted it gold, since he did that to his Apple Watch here, while nearly 10 million viewers tuned in!
If he is rocking an 18k gold Rolex Submariner as we suspect, it perfectly reflects Casey’s stage in life. Leaving New York City and heading to LA was incredibly challenging for Casey and was the end of an era in many ways. A new shiny gold Rolex on his wrist shows that he truly has reached a pinnacle of success, and it shines just as bright as that California sun. Of course, Casey will likely want to do some surfing down there in LA and we feel like an Everest band with the new gold tang buckle would make this watch ready for some fun in the sun.
